\"ImageLe VPU de Movidius<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>La compagnie Movidius a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 nos \u00e9quipes am\u00e9ricaines son VPU, un Vision Processing Unit<\/a>, qui tente d\u2019\u00eatre un troisi\u00e8me type de puce apr\u00e8s les GPU et les CPU et qui se sp\u00e9cialise dans la gestion des myriades d\u2019informations r\u00e9colt\u00e9es par les capteurs des casques de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 augment\u00e9e ou de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle.<\/strong> L\u2019id\u00e9e est d\u2019int\u00e9grer un VPU dans un terminal mobile au c\u00f4t\u00e9 du SoC int\u00e9grant d\u00e9j\u00e0 un CPU et un GPU. Dans les faits, cela nous rappelle les PPU, les PhysX Processing Unit, qui avaient fait parler d\u2019eux lorsque les calculs r\u00e9gissant la physique des objets \u00e9taient au centre des discussions (cf. \u00ab Ageia annonce son PPU : PhysX processing unit \u00bb). NVIDIA a finalement rachet\u00e9 Ageia et les GPU se chargent tr\u00e8s bien de prendre en charge les calculs physiques (cf. \u00ab NVIDIA se paie Ageia et tout ce qui va avec \u00bb). Si l\u2019on se penche un peu plus sur le VPU, on peut penser qu\u2019il rencontrera une fin similaire.<\/p>\n\n

Des optimisations que l\u2019on devrait retrouver dans les SoC du futur<\/h4>\n\n

Le dernier VPU de Movidius est le Myriad 2 qui a la particularit\u00e9 d\u2019int\u00e9grer un CPU RISC et douze unit\u00e9s SIMD de 128 bits pour les calculs vectoriels. Ce chiffre est impressionnant, mais au final l\u2019architecture ressemble beaucoup au parall\u00e9lisme que l\u2019on trouve d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans les GPU. Selon Movidius, le Myriad 2 est plus performant qu\u2019un Tegra K1, selon l\u2019exemple du constructeur, parce que les unit\u00e9s vectorielles g\u00e8rent mieux les branchements gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me de pr\u00e9diction. Pour arriver \u00e0 ses fins, la firme semble utiliser un deuxi\u00e8me processeur RISC plus petit destin\u00e9 au scheduling. On trouve enfin 2 Mo de m\u00e9moire qui sert de m\u00e9moire cache en plus du gigaoctet de m\u00e9moire r\u00e9serv\u00e9e pour la puce dans la DRAM.<\/p>\n\n

Selon les documents de la firme, le VPU prend en charge une carte m\u00e9moire SD, un port USB 3.0, et un port Gigabit Ethernet. La puce fonctionne \u00e0 des fr\u00e9quences comprises entre 300 MHz et 600 MHz et demande moins de 2 W. La firme fournira bient\u00f4t un kit de d\u00e9veloppement.<\/p>\n\n
