Nos partenaires d\u2019AnandTech<\/a> publient les premiers tests opposant un syst\u00e8me embarquant deux processeurs EPYC 7601 \u00e0 une machine int\u00e9grant deux Xeon Platinium 8176, les nouvelles puces lanc\u00e9es cette semaine par Intel<\/a>. Au final, l\u2019architecture Zen domine clairement de nombreux tests, et le rapport performance-prix joue le plus souvent \u00e0 l\u2019avantage d\u2019AMD<\/strong>. Intel a donc clairement du souci \u00e0 se faire, comme le montre le fait que Microsoft commence d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 migrer certains serveurs Azure vers EPYC.<\/p>\n

Une lutte acharn\u00e9e<\/h3>\n

Le Xeon 8176 a un avantage certain dans les tests simple thread et ses caches nettement plus importants \u00e9crasent EPYC dans les applications optimis\u00e9es pour l\u2019architecture Skylake-SP<\/strong>. Par exemple, les bases de donn\u00e9es transactionnelles, comme MySQL, sont nettement plus \u00e0 l\u2019aise sur les processeurs Intel. Les entreprises aux ressources limit\u00e9es choisiront donc des Xeon, parce qu\u2019optimiser les logiciels d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui pour les puces Zen demande une expertise et des ressources qui ne sont pas toujours \u00e0 leur disposition.<\/p>\n

En revanche, le contr\u00f4leur m\u00e9moire \u00e0 huit canaux des EPYC fait des merveilles face \u00e0 celui des Xeon Platinum limit\u00e9s \u00e0 six canaux. De plus, les calculs scalaires en virgule flottante propulsent AMD loin devant Intel<\/strong>. On devrait donc commencer \u00e0 voir des supercalculateurs basculer sur l\u2019architecture d\u2019AMD. Au final, Intel n\u2019a clairement pas dit son dernier mot, et la firme continue de s\u2019imposer dans de nombreux secteurs, mais pour la premi\u00e8re fois depuis longtemps, elle a un vrai rival dans le monde des serveurs. La question est maintenant de savoir si AMD pourra accro\u00eetre la pression exerc\u00e9e avec ses puces EPYC Zen 2 Rome attendues en 2018\u20132019.<\/p>\n
