C’est l’histoire d’un iPhone 6 qui voit ses performances peu \u00e0 peu diminuer au fil du temps, sans v\u00e9ritable explication : on s’attend en effet qu’avec l’\u00e2ge et l’usure de la batterie, l’autonomie d’un appareil diminue, mais certainement pas ses performances ! Et pourtant, c’est ce que de nombreux utilisateurs ont constat\u00e9 sur leur iPhone 6 sous iOS 11. Selon notre propre exp\u00e9rience avec un iPhone 6, nous pouvons m\u00eame dire que c’\u00e9tait insupportablement lent pour un utilisateur exigent. La pol\u00e9mique ne faisait pourtant pas bouger Apple pour autant, et il a fallu un article du blog de Geekbench pour d\u00e9coincer la situation, for\u00e7ant Apple \u00e0 r\u00e9agir.<\/p>\n

Si l’on en croit des statistiques compil\u00e9s \u00e0 partir du benchmark GeekBench, il y a une \u00e9vidente perte de performances des iPhone 6 \u00e0 partir d’iOS 10.2.1, le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne \u00e9tant m\u00eame amplifi\u00e9 avec iOS 11.2.0. Voil\u00e0 comment un benchmark a permis de confirmer un bridage qu’Apple ne voulait pas officiellement reconnaitre… Si les benchmarks sont souvent d\u00e9cri\u00e9s pour leur inutilit\u00e9 pr\u00e9sum\u00e9e, voil\u00e0 au moins une bonne raison qu’ils existent !<\/p>\n

En fait, tout va bien dans le meilleur des mondes

Officiellement, le constructeur a cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 corriger un probl\u00e8me rencontr\u00e9 l’ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re sur ses iPhone 6\/6s\/SE, qui s’\u00e9teignaient inopin\u00e9ment dans certaines conditions : en cas de grand froid, ou avec une batterie faible ou \u00e2g\u00e9e. La batterie ne pouvant fournir suffisamment de courant en cas de pic important de charge CPU (lors d’un benchmark par exemple), l’iPhone s’\u00e9teignait par manque d’\u00e9nergie. A l’\u00e9poque du correctif, Apple parlait officiellement d’une \u00ab am\u00e9lioration<\/a> \u00bb pour r\u00e9duire de 80 % l’extinction inopin\u00e9e des iPhone 6.<\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui on sait finalement qu’Apple a mis en place un nouveau mode de fonctionnement lissant les pics de consommation sur plusieurs cycles CPU, par un simple throttling <\/em>pr\u00e9ventif, un ralentissement du processeur. La baisse des performances enregistr\u00e9e par les benchmarks n’est que la cons\u00e9quence de ce nouveau mode de fonctionnement, on le rappelle, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme une am\u00e9lioration. Notons au passage que cette fonctionnalit\u00e9 a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tendue \u00e0 l’iPhone7 \u00e0 partir d’iOS 11.2, et que c’est aussi pour votre bien, \u00e9videmment.<\/p>\n

Apple a \u00e9galement ajout\u00e9 un message indiquant \u00e0 l’utilisateur que sa batterie est en fin de vie (le cas \u00e9ch\u00e9ant), mais ce dernier s’affiche bien apr\u00e8s que le syst\u00e8me n’ait commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les performances CPU. Notez aussi que ce comportement est forc\u00e9 sur tous les iPhone 6 sous iOS 11, m\u00eame ceux achet\u00e9s r\u00e9cemment avec une batterie neuve… C’est balaud !<\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9but des class-action<\/h3>\n

Le probl\u00e8me, c’est que m\u00eame si cela part d’une bonne intention (\u00e0 savoir am\u00e9liorer l’exp\u00e9rience utilisateur en \u00e9vitant des arr\u00eats inopin\u00e9s de ses iPhone tout en prolongeant au maximum la dur\u00e9e de vie de leur batterie), Apple a impl\u00e9ment\u00e9 une fonctionnalit\u00e9 touchant aux performances de leur appareil, sans demander l’avis des utilisateurs, ni recueillir leur accord. S’agit-il pour autant de tromperie ou d’obsolescence programm\u00e9e ?<\/p>\n

Pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question, il y aura un ou plusieurs jugements ces prochaines semaines ou ces prochains mois : des plaintes commencent \u00e0 \u00eatre d\u00e9pos\u00e9es aux Etats-Unis<\/a>, les demandes des plaignants aupr\u00e8s des tribunaux se concentrant autour du remplacement de leur iPhone vieillissant et des compensations pour la perte de valeur et d’usage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
