Toutes les batteries Lithium-ion que nous utilisons ont une dur\u00e9e de vie exprim\u00e9e en cycles\u00a0: avec le temps, leurs performances se d\u00e9gradent jusqu\u2019\u00e0 devenir inutilisable. Des progr\u00e8s ont bien entendu \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, mais la conclusion est toujours la m\u00eame\u00a0: chaque recharge rapproche un peu plus la batterie de sa mort in\u00e9luctable.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Electrodes en or renforc\u00e9es<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Financ\u00e9s par le D\u00e9partement de l\u2019\u00c9nergie am\u00e9ricain, des chercheurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Californie se sont associ\u00e9s \u00e0 d’autres chercheurs de l’Universit\u00e9 du Maryland pour travailler sur le sujet. Ils ont mis au point une batterie extr\u00eamement r\u00e9sistante, presque immortelle, bas\u00e9e sur des \u00e9lectrodes compos\u00e9es de nano-fils en or entour\u00e9s d\u2019une gaine de dioxyde de mangan\u00e8se (oui, le m\u00eame que l’on trouve dans les piles alcalines !), le tout plong\u00e9 dans un \u00e9lectrolyte similaire \u00e0 du Plexiglas g\u00e9latineux. Ces \u00e9lectrodes renforc\u00e9es ne sont d\u00e8s lors plus sujettes aux fissures rencontr\u00e9es sur les \u00e9lectrodes classiques de nos batteries actuelles.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

En pratique, une batterie de ce nouveau genre a support\u00e9 200\u00a0000 recharges sur trois mois, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 une batterie Li-Ion normale atteint difficilement 5000 \u00e0 7000 recharges. L\u2019autre bonne nouvelle est que ces batteries \u00ab\u00a0ultimes\u00a0\u00bb pourraient \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es partout\u00a0: smartphones, voitures et m\u00eame dans l\u2019espace.
