Afin de contrer les prochains GPU Navi d\u2019AMD, tous les moyens semblent bons pour NVIDIA. Le 1er mai dernier, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 a d\u00e9pos\u00e9<\/a> un recours aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019Office de l’Union europ\u00e9enne pour la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 intellectuelle. Son objet ? R\u00e9server les num\u00e9ros 3080, 4080 et 5080 avec pour objectif d’emp\u00eacher AMD d’utiliser ces nomenclatures pour ses prochaines cartes graphiques !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le probl\u00e8me de l’utilisation de nombres en tant que marque se pose r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement : Intel en a d’ailleurs fait les frais dans les ann\u00e9es 90, en particulier avec un jugement invalidant “386” comme marque d\u00e9pos\u00e9e et consid\u00e9rant le terme comme g\u00e9n\u00e9rique. Intel avait par la suite tent\u00e9 de d\u00e9poser “486” et “586”, ainsi que “i586”, sans succ\u00e8s, pour finalement demander en 1992 \u00e0 Lexicon Branding de trouver un nom pour ses futurs processeurs de cinqui\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration : le Pentium \u00e9tait n\u00e9.

Au cours de ces dix derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, les cartes graphiques AMD ont port\u00e9 diff\u00e9rents noms : Radeon HD, Radeon R5\/R7\/R9, Radeon RX et r\u00e9cemment, Radeon VII<\/a>. Naturellement, NVIDIA n\u2019a pas d\u00fb appr\u00e9cier la rumeur selon laquelle AMD pourrait utiliser la d\u00e9signation RX 3000. Sur un plan marketing, la logique veut que plus le num\u00e9ro de mod\u00e8le est \u00e9lev\u00e9, mieux c’est. Les cartes graphiques Turing de Nvidia, qui sont actuellement commercialis\u00e9es sous la s\u00e9rie RTX 20, pourraient ainsi p\u00e2tir de la sortie de produits baptis\u00e9s RX 30. En outre, cela emp\u00eacherait NVIDIA de l’utiliser pour les successeurs de Turing. Avec une demande concernant les marques 3080, 4080 et 5080, NVIDIA esp\u00e8re assurer son avenir pour plusieurs g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de cartes.
