Des chercheurs australiens ont \u00e9tabli un nouveau record de vitesse de transfert internet : 44,2 Tb\/s. L\u2019exploit a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 sur un unique r\u00e9seau de fibre optique de 75 kilom\u00e8tres reliant la RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) de Melbourne et le campus de Clayton de la Monash University. En pratique, cela permettrait de t\u00e9l\u00e9charger cinquante films en UHD (environ 100 Go) en seulement une seconde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipe a utilis\u00e9 un micro-combinateur afin de remplacer un certain nombre de lasers. Ce dispositif optique g\u00e9n\u00e8re des lignes de fr\u00e9quence tr\u00e8s nettes et \u00e9quidistantes dans une minuscule puce microphotonique. Surtout, son principe de fonctionnement ne se limite pas \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de lumi\u00e8re, comme c\u2019est le cas traditionnellement, mais aussi \u00e0 son absence gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des impulsions de lumi\u00e8re “sombre”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une technologie qui exploite le r\u00e9seau fibre en place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 terme, ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 pourrait \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 dans le r\u00e9seau fibre existant pour am\u00e9liorer le d\u00e9bit. C\u2019est en tout cas ce qu\u2019indique Bill Corcoran, co-auteur de l’\u00e9tude et professeur \u00e0 l’universit\u00e9 Monash\u00a0: “Ce que nos recherches d\u00e9montrent, c’est la capacit\u00e9 de l’infrastructure fibre actuelle [\u2026] \u00e0 \u00eatre l’\u00e9pine dorsale des r\u00e9seaux de communication aujourd’hui et \u00e0 l’avenir. Nous avons d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 quelque chose d’\u00e9volutif pour r\u00e9pondre aux besoins futurs”<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

En l\u2019\u00e9tat, en France, le d\u00e9bit moyen est de 30,4 Mb\/s selon Futura Tech<\/a>. Cela la place au 22e rang mondial. \u00c0 titre de comparaison, le premier rang est occup\u00e9 par Taiwan, avec un d\u00e9bit moyen de 85 Mb\/s. C’est aussi l’\u00c9tat qui a connu la plus grande am\u00e9lioration en un an seulement, passant de la quatorzi\u00e8me \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re position, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des investissements massifs en fibre optique. La Su\u00e8de est le premier pays europ\u00e9en, avec un d\u00e9bit moyen de 55,18 Mb\/s, si l’on exclut le territoire de Jersey, qui la pr\u00e9c\u00e8de d’un rang (67,46 Mb\/s). L’\u00eele de la Manche est le seul pays au monde \u00e0 l’heure actuelle o\u00f9 la fibre optique est accessible \u00e0 l’ensemble des foyers. L’Europe compte 37 des 50 pays o\u00f9 la connexion Internet est la plus rapide au monde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
