Cette ann\u00e9e 2020 aura \u00e9t\u00e9 en dents de scie pour Intel. Au rang des accrocs, l\u2019entreprise a notamment d\u00fb g\u00e9rer l\u2019annonce du report de plusieurs mois de ses processeurs grav\u00e9s en 7 nm. En revanche, elle peut s\u2019enorgueillir d\u2019avoir nettement augment\u00e9 ses capacit\u00e9s de production et endigu\u00e9 la p\u00e9nurie. Elle rapporte avoir doubl\u00e9 sa capacit\u00e9 de production de wafers en 14 et 10 nm au cours des trois derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Certaines s\u00e9quences risquent de vous interpeller dans cette p\u00e9riode r\u00e9gie par les “gestes barri\u00e8re” ; pas d\u2019inqui\u00e9tude, Intel pr\u00e9cise que plusieurs sc\u00e8nes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tourn\u00e9es avant la pand\u00e9mie de Covid-19. Naturellement, les employ\u00e9s suivent d\u00e9sormais les mesures de distanciation et portent un masque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le 10 nm, en attendant le 7 nm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Intel pr\u00e9cise que l’accroissement de sa capacit\u00e9 de production r\u00e9sulte \u00e0 la fois d\u2019une am\u00e9lioration du rendement et d\u2019une extension des capacit\u00e9s. Dans son communiqu\u00e9<\/a>, la firme souligne qu\u2019il lui a m\u00eame fallu “r\u00e9am\u00e9nager des laboratoires et des bureaux existant”<\/em> pour augmenter sa capacit\u00e9 de fabrication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019entreprise cible maintenant le 10 nm, inaugur\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e. D\u2019apr\u00e8s elle, le SuperFin 10 nm repr\u00e9sente la “plus grande am\u00e9lioration intra-n\u0153ud de l\u2019histoire d\u2019Intel”<\/em> et “offre des am\u00e9liorations de performances comparables \u00e0 une transition de n\u0153ud complet”<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 ce sujet, Keyvan Esfarjani, vice-pr\u00e9sident senior et directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la fabrication chez Intel, argue : “Les progr\u00e8s pour le 10 nm avancent assez bien. Nous avons trois importantes usines de fabrication qui tournent \u00e0 plein r\u00e9gime. Nous \u00e9tudions les moyens de faire plus, plus vite et mieux afin de satisfaire nos clients”<\/em>. Pour m\u00e9moire, deux de ces usines se situent aux \u00c9tats-Unis (dans l\u2019Oregon et dans l\u2019Arizona), tandis que la troisi\u00e8me se trouve en Isra\u00ebl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, sachez que des informations stipulent qu\u2019Intel envisagerait d’externaliser une partie de sa production<\/a> en 2021, au moins temporairement. Une grande premi\u00e8re \u00e0 cette \u00e9chelle pour la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, qui produit elle-m\u00eame ses puces, contrairement \u00e0 NVIDIA ou AMD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
