En avril dernier, un rapport \u00e9voquait la volont\u00e9 d\u2019Intel de nommer ses n\u0153uds de gravure diff\u00e9remment<\/a>. C\u2019est d\u00e9sormais chose faite : l\u2019entreprise change son syst\u00e8me de d\u00e9nomination pour ses n\u0153uds internes de fonderie, afin de les rendre plus raccords avec ceux utilis\u00e9s par Samsung et TSMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le n\u0153ud Enhanced SuperFin 10 nm est ainsi rebaptis\u00e9 Intel 7. Il concerne les processeurs de 12e g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, les Adler Lake<\/a>, ainsi que les processeurs Xeon Scalable de 4e g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, les Sapphire Rapids. Pour ces puces, il ne faudra donc plus parler de 10 nm mais d\u2019Intel 7. Notez le choix l\u2019entreprise de ne plus accoler l\u2019unit\u00e9 nanom\u00e9trique derri\u00e8re le nombre. En cons\u00e9quence, Intel communique d\u00e9sormais les gains performance \/ watt pour t\u00e9moigner du saut g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnel plut\u00f4t qu\u2019une hausse de la densit\u00e9 de transistors. Dans le cas de l\u2019Intel 7, ce n\u0153ud offrirait un gain de 10 \u00e0 15 % de performance par watt par rapport au SuperFin 10 nm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transistors RibbonFET<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Le successeur de l\u2019Intel 7, qui sera techniquement le premier n\u0153ud de gravure en 7 nm EUV, s\u2019appellera Intel 4. Il promet une hausse de 20 % du rapport performance \/ watt par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019Intel 7. Il concernera les processeurs Meteor Lake, qui resteront, de fait, les premi\u00e8res puces grand public de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 grav\u00e9es en 7 nm. Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des processeurs pour serveurs, l\u2019Intel 4 sera utilis\u00e9 pour les Granite Rapids. Production pr\u00e9vue en 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019Intel 3 succ\u00e9dera \u00e0 l\u2019Intel 4 \u00e0 partir du second semestre 2023. Intel pr\u00e9tend que ce n\u0153ud offre un gain de 18 % de performance par watt par rapport \u00e0 l’Intel 4, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 diverses am\u00e9liorations, mais se garde de pr\u00e9ciser la taille des FET. En principe, ils seraient toujours en 7 nm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, en 2024, Intel entrera dans une nouvelle \u00e8re, celle de l\u2019Intel 20A, o\u00f9 l\u2019unit\u00e9 de mesure ne sera plus le nanom\u00e8tre mais l\u2019\u00e5ngstr\u00f6m, une unit\u00e9 de longueur qui vaut 0,1 nanom\u00e8tre. Vous l\u2019aurez compris, 20A n’est donc qu’une mani\u00e8re plus “sophistiqu\u00e9e” de d\u00e9signer du 2 nm. En revanche, comme chez Samsung \u00e0 partir du 3 nm<\/a> et chez TSMC \u00e0 partir du 2 nm, cette finesse de gravure impliquera l\u2019abandon des transistors FinFET au profit d’un nouveau type de transistors\u00a0; dans le cas d\u2019Intel, ils s’appellent transistors RibbonFET. Apparemment, il reprennent eux aussi le concept de nano-feuilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intel 7 en 2021, Intel 4 en 2022, Intel 3 en 2023, Intel 20A en 2024, et enfin Intel 18A pour d\u00e9but 2025 : l’entreprise souhaite donc inaugurer un nouveau n\u0153ud de gravure chaque ann\u00e9e jusqu\u2019en 2025, avec un gain \u00e0 deux chiffres pour le rapport performance \/ watt pour les quatre premiers.
