Samsung Foundry ambitionne de tripler sa capacit\u00e9 de production d\u2019ici 2026, rapporte Nikkei Asia. L\u2019entreprise souhaite atteindre cet objectif afin de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande croissante mais \u00e9galement pour \u00eatre plus comp\u00e9titive face \u00e0 TSMC et Intel Foundry Services notamment. Pour y parvenir, la firme cor\u00e9enne va augmenter les capacit\u00e9s de certaines usines et en construire une nouvelle aux \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est en tout cas ce qui ressort des propos de Han Seung-hoon, vice-pr\u00e9sident de Samsung Foundry, rapport\u00e9s par Nikkei. Celui-ci a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : “Nous pr\u00e9voyons de tripler notre capacit\u00e9 d’ici 2026 afin de r\u00e9pondre autant que possible aux besoins des clients en augmentant la capacit\u00e9 de Pyeongtaek et en envisageant de cr\u00e9er une nouvelle usine aux \u00c9tats-Unis”<\/em>. En d\u00e9but d\u2019ann\u00e9e, le site AnandTech rapportait en effet que Samsung envisageait de construire une usine de fabrication pour le 3 nm aux \u00c9tat-Unis, pour un montant total de 17 milliards de dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour Samsung Foundry, cette volont\u00e9 peut impliquer deux choses : soit que l’entreprise s’attend \u00e0 une forte augmentation de la demande de ses clients actuels, soit qu\u2019elle pense gagner de nouvelles parts de march\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actuellement, le 5 nm n\u2019est propos\u00e9 que par deux fondeurs, TSMC et Samsung Foundry. Or, comme le montrait Counterpoint Research dans un article publi\u00e9 en d\u00e9but d\u2019ann\u00e9e, les deux fondeurs se sont partag\u00e9 les demandes de 7 principaux clients en 2021 : Apple, la marque \u00e0 la pomme repr\u00e9sentant \u00e0 elle seule plus de la moiti\u00e9 de la demande, Qualcomm, puis dans une moindre mesure, Samsung Electronics, Mediatek, AMD et NVIDIA. Par ailleurs, en 2017, Samsung Foundry n\u2019avait qu\u2019environ 35 clients, contre une centaine aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es, il est probable que TSMC et Samsung Foundry continuent de se partager le gros du march\u00e9 des n\u0153uds de gravure de pointe, d\u2019autant plus avec le d\u00e9ploiement des processus 3 nm et 2 nm<\/a>. Nous verrons si Intel, avec sa division Intel Foundry Services, parvient \u00e0 rivaliser avec ces deux fondeurs sur de telles finesses de gravure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Par ailleurs, pr\u00e9cisons que Samsung Foundry, avec une capacit\u00e9 de production mensuelle estim\u00e9e \u00e0 un peu plus de 3 millions de wafers de 200 mm fin 2020 par IC Insights et TechSpot, est num\u00e9ro 1 en ce qui concerne la capacit\u00e9 de production de semi-conducteurs. Cependant, la majeure partie de cette capacit\u00e9 de production sert \u00e0 la fabrication de puces DRAM et NAND sur des n\u0153uds matures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
