L\u2019entreprise am\u00e9ricaine Microchip Technology, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 Chandler, en Arizona, a rafl\u00e9 un contrat de 50 millions de dollars avec la NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration<\/em>). La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 a trois ans pour fournir un processeur HPSC (High-Performance Spaceflight Computing<\/em>) “offrant une capacit\u00e9 de calcul au moins 100 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle des ordinateurs actuels utilis\u00e9s pour les vols spatiaux” ; ce, afin de “faire progresser tous les types de missions spatiales futures, de l’exploration plan\u00e9taire aux missions lunaires et martiennes”.<\/p>\n\n\n

Si cette capacit\u00e9 de calcul 100 fois sup\u00e9rieure peut sembler un objectif tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9somptueux, beaucoup de syst\u00e8mes ne sont plus de premi\u00e8re jeunesse. Le vaisseau Orion de la NASA par exemple poss\u00e8de un ordinateur de vol Honeywell initialement utilis\u00e9 pour les avions de ligne Boeing 787 ; et lors de son lancement en 2014, ce syst\u00e8me avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 12 ans d\u2019\u00e2ge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wesley Powell, technologue principal de la NASA pour l’avionique avanc\u00e9e, explique : “Nos ordinateurs actuels pour les vols spatiaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s il y a pr\u00e8s de 30 ans. S’ils ont bien servi les missions pass\u00e9es, les futures missions de la NASA exigent des capacit\u00e9s informatiques embarqu\u00e9es et une fiabilit\u00e9 nettement accrues. Le nouveau processeur informatique fournira les avanc\u00e9es requises en termes de performance, de tol\u00e9rance aux pannes et de flexibilit\u00e9 pour r\u00e9pondre aux besoins de ces futures missions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microchip Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ancienne division micro\u00e9lectronique de General Instrument, Microchip Technology a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1989. Ses \u00e9quipes ont notamment mis au point un FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array<\/em>) PolarFire ayant re\u00e7u r\u00e9cemment la certification MIL-STD-883 Classe B.<\/p>\n\n\n
