Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs japonais du Network Research Institute<\/em> du NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology<\/em>) a fix\u00e9 un nouveau record de d\u00e9bit dans une fibre optique de diam\u00e8tre standard (0,125 mm)\u00a0: 1,53 p\u00e9tabit par seconde. Pour mettre cette valeur en perspective, l\u2019ensemble du trafic Internet mondial avoisine 1 p\u00e9tabit (soit 1 000 t\u00e9rabits ou 1 000 000 gigabits) par seconde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour obtenir une telle bande passante, les chercheurs ont cod\u00e9 les donn\u00e9es sur 55 fr\u00e9quences lumineuses diff\u00e9rentes, une technique appel\u00e9e multiplexage. Le but est de tirer parti des diff\u00e9rentes fr\u00e9quences de lumi\u00e8re du spectre afin d\u2019accro\u00eetre la quantit\u00e9 de flux distincts. Concr\u00e8tement, ce record implique une efficacit\u00e9 spectrale de 332 bits par seconde par hertz (bits\/s\/Hz). Cela repr\u00e9sente une efficacit\u00e9 plus de trois fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle du record de d\u00e9cembre 2020 (105 bits\/s\/Hz).<\/p>\n\n\n

Les chercheurs ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 transmettre des informations sur la bande C \u00e0 travers 184 longueurs d’onde diff\u00e9rentes. Un dispositif module donc la lumi\u00e8re pour transmettre 55 flux de donn\u00e9es distincts (les modes). Apr\u00e8s modulation, il suffit d\u2019un seul c\u0153ur fibre optique pour transmettre toutes les donn\u00e9es. En sortie, un r\u00e9cepteur d\u00e9code les diff\u00e9rentes longueurs d’onde et les diff\u00e9rents modes. Dans cette exp\u00e9rience, la distance entre l’\u00e9metteur et le r\u00e9cepteur est de 25,9 kilom\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e9cemment, vous avez peut-\u00eatre lu des articles \u00e9voquant un record \u00e0 1,84 p\u00e9tabits par seconde<\/a> sur 7,9 kilom\u00e8tres de distance. Cette bande passante a \u00e9t\u00e9 atteinte par des scientifiques de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 technique du Danemark \u00e0 Copenhague. Mais leur record mobilise une puce photonique de conception exp\u00e9rimentale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
