\u00c0 l\u2019occasion de sa North American Technology Symposium 2023<\/em>, le fondeur ta\u00efwanais TSMC a d\u00e9taill\u00e9 ses prochaines n\u0153uds de gravure 2 nm. L\u2019entreprise grave actuellement en 3 nm, et le passage \u00e0 la famille N2 n\u2019est pas pr\u00e9vu dans l\u2019imm\u00e9diat\u00a0: il interviendra en 2025 \/ 2026 selon la feuille de route du fondeur.<\/p>\n\n\n

TSMC pr\u00e9voit trois n\u0153uds de gravure pour le moment\u00a0: le N2, le N2P et le N2X. Jusqu\u2019ici, l\u2019entreprise se limitait \u00e0 \u00e9voquer le N2<\/a>. Ces finesses de gravure introduiront des transistors \u00e0 feuillets nanom\u00e9triques (gate-all-around, GAA<\/em>). Ils permettront de r\u00e9duire la consommation d\u2019\u00e9nergie et \/ ou d\u2019augmenter la densit\u00e9 de transistors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les gains offerts par le 2 nm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Par rapport au N3, le N2 augmentera les performances de 10 \u00e0 15 % \u00e0 puissance et quantit\u00e9 de transistors identiques\u00a0; r\u00e9duira la consommation d’\u00e9nergie de 25 \u00e0 30 % \u00e0 fr\u00e9quence et complexit\u00e9 \u00e9gales. En mati\u00e8re de densit\u00e9, le fondeur renseigne une hausse de 15\u00a0%. TSMC pr\u00e9cise \u00e9galement que les tests se d\u00e9roulent bien\u00a0: la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 rapporte que les transistors Nanosheet GAA ont atteint plus de 80 % des sp\u00e9cifications cibles et que le rendement moyen d’un circuit de test SRAM de 256 Mb d\u00e9passait 50 %.<\/p>\n\n\n

Le N2P, soit la deuxi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, doit s\u2019appuyer sur un rail d’alimentation arri\u00e8re pour am\u00e9liorer les performances. Comme le souligne Anton Shilov de Tom\u2019s Hardware US, l’alimentation par l’arri\u00e8re marquera l’une des \u00e9tapes les plus importantes de ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Notre confr\u00e8re explique que d\u00e9placer les rails d’alimentation \u00e0 l’arri\u00e8re du wafer permet de s\u00e9parer le c\u00e2blage d’E\/S et le c\u00e2blage d’alimentation et att\u00e9nue ainsi les probl\u00e8mes de r\u00e9sistance dans le BEOL (back end of line<\/em>). TSMC ne chiffre pas les gains offerts par le N2P par rapport au N2. Selon certains analystes, ce rail d\u2019alimentation arri\u00e8re pourrait entra\u00eener une baisse \u00e0 un chiffre de la consommation d’\u00e9nergie et une augmentation \u00e0 deux chiffres de la densit\u00e9 des transistors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concernant le N2X, ce sera un processus essentiellement destin\u00e9 \u00e0 produire des processeurs HPC devant supporter des tensions tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour finir, rappelons qu\u2019Intel ambitionne de finaliser son n\u0153ud de gravure 20A avec transistors RibbonFET GAA et PowerVia en 2024, soit avec au moins deux d’avance sur TSMC\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n
